We’ve been eating healthy and pinching pennies…and all of that has created a hankering for one of my great-grandmother’s family recipes. Honest truly, it couldn’t be easier. We like it all kinds of ways…it’s great warm over vanilla ice cream…we’ve been known to eat right out of the pan with a spoon…and upon occasion we may or may not just use the old finger method!
Ingredients
2 ounces dark chocolate
1/4 pound salted butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons genuine vanilla extract
Optional add-ins:
salt to taste
cayenne pepper
almond extract
orange extract
Instructions:
Into a small pan on low heat add the butter. Then add the chocolate so that it sits on top of the butter. Julia Child (it would be the proper technique) would tell you that you should use a double boiler, but it’s really not necessary. Begin swirling the butter with the chocolate resting on top around the pan. Continue gently swirling and stirring until the butter and all of the chocolate have melted. Turn off the heat. Slowly whisk or swirl in the sweetened condensed milk until fully incorporated. Add the vanilla extract and any other add-ins to make it yours!
